On Friday, August 10, 2018 of Gambrills, MD. John was born on March 13, 1921 to the late Joseph Michael and Rose H. McDonough in Hampton Roads, VA. He attended school in Old Bowie, MD and as a teen worked on local Bowie farms. He went into the Army/Air Coup on July 31, 1943 and was assigned to the 10th Army – 80th Group – 459 Fighter Squadron Twin Dragons. He served in the China Burma India (CBI) Theatre from September 10, 1943 until October 8, 1945. Being in India impacted his life. John would talk about being in India almost every day, to anyone who would listen. After his military service he worked for National Plastics in Odenton, MD as an over-the-road driver and then went to work for Giant Food as a driver in 1965. He retired in October 1989. John marred the late Margaret S. McDonough in 1948 they resided in Bowie, MD. He loved to hunt small game and birds. He and Margaret enjoyed going to his Rock Point, MD property to fish and attend the local church dinners. He also enjoyed working in his garden and attending church services at Ascension Catholic Church. He always looked forward to attending every Memorial Day and Veterans Day services at Veterans Park in Old Bowie. John is survived by four children; Rose Pollard (Dave, deceased), Odenton, MD, John F. McDonough (Margaret), Gambrills, MD, James M. McDonough (Nancy), Crofton MD, and Joseph M. McDonough (Shirley), Annapolis, MD. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and his sister Loretta McDonough and brother Francis X. McDonough. John is predeceased by his siblings Pauline Sterling, Anna Cook and Thomas McDonough. Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rt 3 South), Bowie, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham-Severn Rd, Bowie, MD on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:30am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
