John Francis McGuire was born May 2, 1929 in New Haven, Connecticut to John James McGuire and Helen Gilday (Anglicised from Ellie Gildea). Both of his parents immigrated from Ireland. The family moved to the Yorkville section of Manhattan in the 1930s. John attended Elementary School in Manhattan and graduated from Xavier High School. He later earned a Masters’ Degree. He served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army, making him a veteran of three wars-WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He served in the Federal Government for over thirty years. He was pre-deceased by his wife of sixty-five years, Barbara Giles McGuire, and his brother, Thomas McGuire (also a veteran). He is survived by his three children, Andrea Baird McGuire, William Giles McGuire, and Sean Patrick McGuire; his sister Helen Carter; many nieces and nephews, and a host of loving neighbors and friends.
