John Robert (“Bob”) Myers, 75, of Crofton, Md, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by loved ones on May 24, 2023, after a brave 19-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Bob was born on July 3, 1947 to Grace and John Myers in Baltimore, Md. After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly) in 1965, Bob went on to attend the University of Maryland College Park. He then flourished in a more than 40-year career working for PEPCO (Potomac Electric Power Company) in Washington, DC.
While at Maryland, Bob met the love of his life, Donna Wiegard, who would later become his wife of 55 years. Together, they would go on to raise their family together in Crofton. He is survived by Donna, his children Patti Rossini (James) and Jeff Myers (Patty), his sister Linda Myers, and his four grandchildren, Josh, Nick, Jonathan, and Sarah. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Myers.
Bob was the very definition of the phrase family man, known not only as Bob (or “Bobby” to a select few), but also as hubby, Dad, Pops, Grandpop, best friend to Georgie (the family Beagle, and world class sniffer), mentor, confidante, and honorary member of the Grumpy Old Men’s Walking Athletic Club. His capacity to love knew no bounds, and if he called you friend, he loved you as family. And boy, did he like to talk about his family!
Bob was also a huge sports fan, particularly of the Baltimore Orioles (if you must ask, yeah, “Brooks woulda had it!”) and Maryland Terrapins’ Mens Basketball and Football teams. He loved Johnny U. and the Baltimore Colts, back in the day. Bob also enjoyed the beach – whether sinking his toes in the sand “downee ocean, hon”, with a cold one in hand, or cruising the Caribbean with his family. He loved cars, rock music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and tending to his garden oasis. And don’t forget the soft ice cream – not only did Bob enjoy the occasional vanilla soft serve, but prior to college he was the top ice cream truck driver around for Mr. Softee.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses from The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Cameron Green team and Hospice of the Chesapeake for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland which was near and dear to Bob’s heart. The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday May 31, from 2-3pm at Beall Funeral Home (6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie, Md 20715), with a memorial service to follow at 3pm.
Cheers, Pops!
