Joseph Willis Goodman

May 5, 1931 — March 6, 2019

Joseph Willis Goodman was the elder of two children born to Cora and Moses Goodman on May 5, 1931 in Bowers Hill,  VA.  Joseph answered the call from our Heavenly father on March 6, 2019 at the age of 87.

Joseph spent his formative years in Portsmouth, VA.  He attended and graduated from Norcom High School in Portsmouth.  He served in the Armed Forces for four years during the Korean War.  Joe was a paratrooper with the 18th Airborne Corps and he studied Topographic Drafting.  After his military service, Joe moved to Washington, D.C. and received additional technical training to become a Draftsman.  In 1954, he began his 36 year career as a Cartographer with the Department of Interior, Geological Survey.  Joe loved his work and later enjoyed being a supervisor. He took great pride in the maps that he and his team produced. While at the Survey, Joe met and married his surviving spouse of 62 years, Minnie Frances and had one offspring, daughter Jennifer. Joe called Reston, VA home for 43 years.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Minnie of Alexandria, VA; his daughter Jennifer of Upper Marlboro, MD; his nieces and nephews, Pam, Courtney, Mark, Roland, George, and Sean and a host of other relatives and friends.
