Joseph Terry Laidley Sr., known as Terry, 86, of Annapolis Maryland passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 5, 1937 in Erie Pennsylvania, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Terry proudly served in the Army from 1960-1963. After his military service, he pursued a career in the Federal Government at the U.S. Government Printing Office. He valued education, having graduated from Carmichaels Senior High School, Kansas City University with a Bachelor’s Degree and Purdue University for his Masters degree in French Literature.
Terry was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bowie MD, where he found comfort and community. He was deeply involved in the Knights of Columbus, Bowie MD #2577.
In his free time, Terry was an avid golfer and enjoyed all types of games, including pickleball, tennis, billiards, card games, board games, (especially upwords with Loretta). He cherished spending time with his family and was known for his love of family, church, prayer and games. Terry was also an accomplished musician, singing in several church choirs, playing piano and trumpet.
“Terry”, “Dad”, “Pa”, will be dearly missed and is survived by his loving wife Loretta, his nine children, 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Laidley, mother Rosemary Gibson and stepmother Jeanne Silvain.
Services to honor and celebrate Terry’s life will be held at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie MD, with a viewing on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 2pm to 4 pm. A Catholic funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Bowie, MD on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11 am, followed by a private burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens for family only.

Terry’s peaceful, caring and considerate nature will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
