Joseph Wright Noonan

September 20, 1931 – May 15, 2021

Joseph Wright Noonan of Bowie, Maryland passed away on May 15, 2021 at the age of 89 after a long illness.  Joseph was born in Newport, Rhode Island on September 20, 1931. He was the youngest of ten children born to Matthias and Ellen Noonan.

After graduation from high school, Joseph enlisted in the US Army in 1951. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he enrolled in Cornell University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations in 1958. He then began his federal career in 1959 as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He retired from the FAA as the Director of Personnel after 35 years of service. He received numerous recognitions and awards during his tenure with the FAA.

He was predeceased by his siblings. He is survived by his son, Michael, of Bowie and his daughter, Kathleen (Jerry Murr) and granddaughter, Fallon of Colorado, as well as by several nieces and nephews. 

He will be interred at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
