Joseph (Joe) F. Wing, 72, of California, Md., passed away peacefully on Sept. 21 with his loving
partner and devoted caretaker Carole O’Malley and his faithful cat Lily by his side.
Joe was born on Jan. 5, 1950 to Mr. and Mrs. C. Burton Wing in Rochester, N.Y. Shortly after
graduating from high school, he went on to join the Army.
After graduation, he went into the Army, where he started a lifelong commitment of service. He
served as a Special Forces Intelligence Sergeant from Jan. 1968-Oct. 1970, and gave support in
the Republic of South Vietnam as a Sergeant of Field Operations for two years and 10 months.
Following Joe’s return from service, he served as a Police Officer for the Prince George County
Police Department for more than 25 years, with one year as a detective. He then worked as a
K9 Handler and Line Sergeant. After retirement, he worked for Legal Processor Services in
Southern Maryland.
Joe was a father, a son, a brother, a friend, a protector, a drummer, and a marvelous cook. He
especially enjoyed Northern Italia recipes, and opportunities to make new and delicious
cocktails.
Joe was preceded in death by grandparents, brothers David L. Wing, John Burton Wing, son
Craig Wing, and nephew Jim MacLaren. He is survived by daughter Jordana Wing, sister Hillary
Wing-Richards (husband Clint Richards), nephews John MacLaren (partner Kellie Bachiero), Neil
MacLaren (wife Lenora), Chris Wing (wife Denise), and niece Jennifer Hippensteel. He is also
survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
His family is forever thankful for the loving kindness shown by his partner, Carole O’Malley,
who was by his side through the illness he bravely fought until the very end.
He is to be cremated, and his final wishes are for ashes to be scattered in a private location with
family members present. Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Md was in charge of final arrangements.
