Judith L. Clawson, 80, a long-time resident of Twin Lakes, passed away on August 25, 2019 in Annandale, Virginia. Beloved wife of 53 years of the late Robert W. Clawson.
Judy was born in Cleveland in 1938 to Frank Anton and Bettie (Cerny) Lisy of Orange Village. She graduated magna cum laude from Bowling Green State University in Elementary Education in 1960 and taught in Long Beach, CA, and in Stow. A math teacher, Judy enjoyed number puzzles and loved her students and colleagues at Kimpton Middle School. She was known for her big smile, ready laugh, and sly sense of humor. She was always up for an adventure, whether crewing a canal boat through Burgundy, hosting her grandchildren for “Camp Grandma and Grandpa,” going on a road-trip, or joining the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Judy enjoyed fine dining, wine, and long dinner conversations with her siblings and with Delta Gamma, Coterie III, University Women, Coast Guard, and Friday Night Dinner friends. She loved to feed and take care of family and friends, as well as her large, rambunctious dogs. She also knew the value of a dollar and knew how to squeeze a centime until it cried for mercy. She was a dedicated blood donor to the American Red Cross. Judy belonged to the Chestnut Society, University Women, Twin Lakes Women’s Golf Association, Ohio and National Councils of Teachers of Math, NEA, Stow Teachers Association and League of Women Voters.
Judy is survived by her children Deborah M. Clawson (Gary Schafer) of Crofton, MD, and Gregory S. Clawson (Laura) of Burke, VA. Loving grandmother of Alexander A. Clawson (Megan), Carina M. Clawson and William H. Clawson. Also survived by her sister Janet Eames (Thomas) and her brother Gary Lisy (Becky). A small family service will be held at a later date.
