June B. Auer
(May 17, 1921 – January 19, 2022)
June B. Auer, 100, of Arbutus and Crofton, Maryland, passed away on January 19. The daughter of Anna and Joseph W. Bowen, she was a 1939 graduate of Southern High School in Baltimore. She married J. Donald Auer in 1942. She worked for the State of Maryland—first for Juvenile Services, and then for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. After retiring, she volunteered for 25 years in the kitchen of St. Martin’s Home, administered by the Little Sisters of the Poor, and worked until the age of 91 at the Baltimore Convention Bureau, where one official described her as “legendary” for her cheerfulness and helpfulness to staff and visitors from across the nation and around the world. Loved by her neighbors, she was always ready with cookies for the children and a kind word for all. Loved by co-workers, her encouragement helped more than one to advance and achieve major life goals. A long-time parishioner of Ascension Church in Halethorpe, she spent her final years in Crofton, to the delight of new friends and neighbors. Her husband, her brother Derwood Bowen, and her daughter, Nancy J. Cutair, predeceased her. She is survived by her son Michael, her sister-in-law Marian G. Auer, and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Crofton, on Wednesday, January 26 at noon. Family and friends may gather at 11:00. Interment will be at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore. Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Martin’s Home, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228.
