June Ann Gibbs

June Ann Gibbs, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on August 9th, 2024. June was born in Washington DC on June 19th, 1948. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas Gibbs, her parents Ernest and Mary Dodson, he sisters Sally Rarden and Leona Nicely, and her brother William Dodson. She is survived by her brother Robert Dodson, daughter Marie Shaffery, and sons James and Ernest Gibbs.

June attended public school in Washington, DC until 1963 when she and her family relocated to Arlington, VA. One of her favorite childhood memories was attending Summer Camp and working her way up the ladder to become a camp counselor. During June's high school years, she worked as a cashier at Woolworth's Store in Virginia Square. Upon graduating high school, she received a promotion with the company and traveled through the Northeast region setting up new stores and remodeling old ones. She worked for Woolworth's for 35 years before the company went out of business. In the following years, June worked at JCPenney and transitioned into phone sales before retiring.

June met her husband, Thomas Gibbs, and got married on January 12th, 1985 at the courthouse in Upper Marlboro, MD. June was an avid collector, and she used to collect coins, especially Jefferson Nickels. Later in life she began collecting carnival glass and toothpick holders. She loved going to the beach, gardening, Bingo, reading, and arts and crafts.

While June will be missed by many, we can all take comfort in our memories of her. Of her laughter, her love of a good party, her stubbornness, her kindness, her love of dirty romance novels, and her love of a good glass of Jack Daniels.

The family asks that bright colors be worn to the service, as a celebration of June and her love of flowers and gardening.
