Kate Hoelzl of Bowie, Maryland passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the age of 83 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Karl Hoelzl (Janet) and two daughters, Lisa Welsh (Jeff), Karen Russek (Tom); 6 Grandchildren, Bonnie Zeigler, Victoria Whetzel (Bret), Krystal Welsh, Jakob Welsh, Karoline Russek, Katerina Russek; and 2 Great-Grandchildren, Hailey Whetzel and Reid Whetzel.
She was born in Frankfurt, Germany on July 10, 1938 to Jakob and Maria Habig and was the youngest of two children. Her sister, Elfriede, preceded her in death in December of 2021. Kate came to the United States in December of 1956 on the SS United States ship. She married Ernst Hoelzl on June 28, 1958. He preceded her in death in May of 1996. Kate worked for the PG County school system for 30 years as a high school cafeteria worker. After retirement, she loved to travel back and forth to Germany to visit family and friends with her companion, Paul. Kate truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures like spending time with her family, cooking, shopping, listening to German music, and winning at German Rummy.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Kate touched are invited to the Beall Funeral Home, located on 6512 NW Crain Highway in Bowie, on Saturday, July 9th 2022 from 10am-12noon. Followed by a burial ceremony at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD.
