Katherine Prosch Smith, 98, of Bowie Maryland, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Smith was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on September 2, 1922. She lived in Norfolk with her husband, Frank J. Minor until his death in 1972. She later married Roy W. Smith of Hertford, North Carolina and lived there until his death in 2001. She then lived in Bowie Maryland with her daughter until her illness a short time ago.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her parents, John G. Prosch and Emma Proctor Prosch, and her sister, Elizabeth Funk. She was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk and a business school. She was employed by the City of Norfolk as an accountant until her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of the Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church and the Bowie Church of Christ. She was an active member of Women’s Bible Study meetings and enjoyed worship in these churches. An avid reader, her church friends provided many books for her.
Surviving are her daughters, Katherine Rothermel, and husband, Kenneth, of Bowie, Maryland and Marie Heptinstall, and husband, John Wesley, of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sharon Goodman, Lynn Hoffman, Kenneth Rothermel, Jr., Roger Mosley, Jr. and Laura Repass. She leaves eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Burial will be Norfolk, Virginia at a later date.
