Born in Abington, PA, Kathleen (Kay) was the eldest of the late Francis Gillespie and Catherine McMaster Gillespie. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Uko, and siblings Michael (Carol) Gillespie and Francis (Jean) Gillespie. She is survived by her son Thomas (Mary Ann), granddaughter Kathleen (Daniel), twin sisters Mary (Ed) Cormier and Evangeline Gillespie, brother Rev. Thomas Gillespie, OSFS, and many nieces and nephews.
Kay enlisted in the Army early in her career serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the Nurse Corp from 1952-1955. She taught in the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing. She completed her career serving our military as a home health nurse with the Veterans Administration.
Her love of knowledge was never ending, earning nursing degrees from the University of St. Louis (‘55 BSN), Catholic University (’64 MSN) and University of Maryland (’85 BSN). Kay continued her learning through online college courses and classes at the local senior center. She enjoyed history, sightseeing past and current events.
Kay loved people; just being around them or helping if needed. She was active in her church, tutored in local schools, and always remained a compassionate nurse. We are enriched by her life and grateful to have known her. May she rest in the Lord.
