Kevin Leroy Ware, 61 years of age, passed this life very unexpectedly on the Sabbath Day
Saturday, October 30, 2021, after returning from his long time spin class and bicycle ride home.
Kevin was born October 28, 1960, in Washington, DC to Racheal Ware and the late Leroy Ware. He was the eldest of four children. “Kev”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was educated in the District of Columbia. He graduated from Eastern Senior High School and attended University of the District of Columbia. He married his high school sweetheart in 1982, and the couple was blessed with two children from this union. Kevin’s children remember him fondly as the very loving, affectionate and “cool” dad, who encouraged them to pursue their dreams. His huge smile and warm embrace were generally the medicine that aided them in life.
Kevin was a diligent and dedicated man of service- community service. He aided in countless community outreach and service programs throughout the DC Metropolitan region. It was not uncommon to find him re-painting and refurbishing local schools, repurposing low income housing, mentoring inner city youth, feeding, clothing and sheltering the homeless he encountered, collecting non-perishables to stock local food banks, or perhaps watching over the youth as a volunteer lifeguard. The list goes on. Kevin’s heart was big and his reach widespread. He gave even in times when he did not have. That was his way. That was his blessing- humility and humanity.
Kevin was an avid sports and fitness fanatic. Over the course of his life, he has been member to a host of sporting teams- football, basketball, softball, volleyball and tennis. “Kev “ greatly excelled at each of them. He was also a very well-known fitness mentor, aerobics and spin instructor, and motivator to many- offering insight that changed lives.
In more recent years, he found his passion- bicycling… There are no words to sum up the love he found on the open road with his bike- usually clothed in his favorite color pink. He was known across the region for initiating and being member to many cycling clubs and organizations. Kevin would mentor and inspire any level of cyclist- from the newest to most experienced. He would never leave any cyclist behind, no matter the pace, no matter the time. Each year Kevin co-organized the annual “Ride for Natasha” with Ms. Kenniss Henry to honor her late daughter and call attention to cycling advocacy for safety. He served as a Ride Marshall for Bike to Work day and countless other rides to increase bicycle safety. His bike fortuned him the opportunity to form community, everlasting friendships, and dutiful purpose.
Kevin leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Edith L. Ware; two children, Elizabeth R. Ware and Jacob A. Ware; two granddaughters, Sommer A. Graham and Hailey M. Graham; his mother, Racheal D. Ware; three siblings, Aaron W. Ware Sr., LaWanda D. Ware and Yvette M. Ware, a daughter-in-law, sister and brother-in-law’s, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great aunts, uncles, and countless friends.
