Kiwane M. Lett, 23, of Austin, TX, entered into eternal rest January 23, 2020. He was born August 16, 1996 in State College, PA, the oldest son of Thomas and Samaria (Brewton) Lett. Kiwane was a gifted student and excelled in Math and Science. He attended Rockledge Elementary School and Samuel Ogle Middle School. He was accepted into the very competitive and rigorous Science and Technology Program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and graduated in 2014. A strong and focused student, Kiwane was the recipient of many academic collegiate scholarships, and matriculated to Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2018. During his tenure at Penn State, he completed numerous engineering internships with Fortune 500 companies in several cities in the United States. After graduation, Kiwane packed his bags and moved to his dream city of Austin, Texas. He was employed by Intel Corporation as a server validation engineer.
In addition, to being an excellent student, Kiwane was a dedicated athlete and community leader. Kiwane played basketball and football and at the tender age of 12, received his black belt in Tae Kwon Do from Performance Martial Arts. He was an active member of Gethsemane AME Church in Bowie, MD, Top Teens of America, Prince George’s County Chapter and Teens of Northridge. In fact, Kiwane served as the National Senior Citizen Chairperson for Top Teens of America; and was personally selected by Pastor Harmon as Gethsemane AME Church’s Young Man of the Year.
He was supportive, loving, and could always be counted on to be there for his brother and sisters. He possessed a great personality that endured him to many and was always ready to try new adventures. He loved to travel and visit friends all over the country. He will always be remembered for his calm demeanor and a smile that could light up a room.
Kiwane had three main goals that he wanted to achieve. 1st, he wanted to buy his first car. 2nd, he wanted to purchase his first house. 3rd, he wanted to retire by the age of 35. He was able to accomplish two out of three of his goals. His efforts throughout life have made us proud.
Kiwane will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. Kiwane is survived by his parents Thomas and Samaria of Bowie, MD; his younger brother Amani and his younger sisters Kiara and Zoey, all three are at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Charles and Samella Brewton, of Erie, PA; and his paternal grandparent, James Hampton, of Brooklyn, NY.
