Kurleigh Wayne Bayrd was born on August 3, 1974, in Washington, DC to Lawson Husbands and Laurel Bayrd.
As a toddler, Kurleigh attended Easter Seals Child Development Center where he developed his communication skills and learned more than 300 signs. His skills were nurtured at Ivymount School in Potomac. He attended Parkdale High School and transferred to High Point High School where he graduated. Kurleigh faced challenges in life. He exceeded man’s expectations but not God’s. Kurleigh could put together a five-thousand-piece puzzle after viewing the picture only once. He attended Opportunities Inc. where he learned life skills working alongside other youths. became an altar server and was exceptional at his role. He received several awards, most notably the Archdiocese of Washington Manifesting the Kingdom for Dedicated Services in 2011 from the Archbishop. Kurleigh traveled to Italy and twice to Lourdes, France. He emulated his mother’s faith and dedication to the Lord. Kurleigh had a great personality and infectious smile. He brought such light to the world. He got along well with everyone he met. Kurleigh never forgot a face, a birthday, or a route traveled. Kurleigh was loving, caring, and enjoyed talking to others about family and football.
Kurleigh leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his passing, his father, Lawson Husbands, his mother, Laurel Bayrd McDonald, step-father, Gordon McDonald, half-sister Nadia Smid (John), step-sister, Latoya Fennell (Torrance), Aunts Claudette Morgan (Errol), Bernadette Bayrd-Charles (Dudley), Uncles Desmond Bayrd and Philip Bayrd (Zita), many cousins, and other loving family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
To his grieving family, relatives, and friends, we say, “Do not despair, for the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.”
