Larry J. Penkert (Pinky), 95, passed away peacefully December 16, 2020.  He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth Aileen (Pruett ) Penkert, for fifty eight years.  Mr. Penkert was born in Washington DC on January 24, 1925, to Lawrence Joseph and Mary (Sheriff) Penkert.  He grew up in Washington, DC until he severed in the Pacific Theater during World War II, were he received the Asiatic Pacific 1 Star; , The Distinguished Flying Cross;,  American Theater;,  Victory Ribbon;,   Air Medal (5);,  listed under the WWII Veteran memorial in Washington DC ; Honoree as an Aerial Gunner in an Avenger Torpedo-Bomber flew off USS Santee CVE-29, he flew thirty nine missions.

His devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren as well as his great grandchildren were the focal point of his life.   Nothing gave him more joy than birth of a new grandchild or a visit from one of them.   Mr. Penkert is survived by five children, Paul (Barbara), Michael (Jessica), Patricia (Ari), Anthony (Nicole), Mary (Vince). As well as twelve grandchildren Thomas (Nikki), Charles (Stephanie), Meghan, Joseph, Emilie, Sarah, Rachel, Heli, Hannah, Niklas, Lilja and Sean; five great grandchildren Audrey, Daniel, Makenzie, Mason, and Maddox, along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Lorraine P. Mills, David Penkert (Betty) and Richard Penkert (Barbara) all who pre-deceased him; and survived by Patsy Allison (Stafford), who he saw as his little sister.

Family and friends are invited to pay their last respects at Beall funeral home at 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie, Maryland at 5-7 pm on December 29,2020, followed by a private service.  A Naval Burial at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland, will be held on January 7,2020, will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his name be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
