LaVon “Von” Deadwiler, 86, of Lanham, MD, entered God’s eternal care on January 29, 2024, at home with Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute Hospice. He was born to the late Ida M. and Connie Deadwiler, Sr. on October 1, 1937, in Brookside, Alabama. He attended Jefferson County Public Schools to receive his education. During his teen years, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. He then, later moved to Maryland. He was the fourth child out of thirteen siblings.
LaVon enlisted in the Air Force Branch in 1954; proudly served as a Supply Technician while stationed in Korea. His commitment to his country and family was unwavering, as he was a source of inspiration to who knew of him.
Following his distinguished military service, LaVon sought his career with the Washington Gas Light company in 1967. He later retired in 2000, after his dedicated service of thirty-three years as a Supervisory Area Foreman.
LaVon had many hobbies including, fishing, traveling/cruises, horses, planting flowers, listening to his oldies but goodies, playing cards/pool, grilling, watching Westerns on television, coaching his Softball Team “Von’s Raiders”, and watching football (Washington Commanders formerly known as Redskins), but most importantly being a provider to his family and protector to his neighbors.
Aside from being a very special husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, he was a loving person, always extending an open hand and a kind loving heart to all.
LaVon Deadwiler is preceded in eternal rest by his mother Ida Mae Deadwiler, father Connie Deadwiler Sr; three sisters, Betty Jean Jones, Majorie Jones, and Shirley McMullen; six brothers, Connie Deadwiler Jr., Ralph Deadwiler, Sylvester McMullen, Carl “Donald” McMullen, Earnest McMullen; and Clifford Gates Jr; and a grandson, Justin Littlejohn.
LaVon is survived to cherish his memories by his loving family; spouse, Angela Deadwiler; two daughters, LaVonda Deadwiler-Todd (Andre), Yolanda Dickens (Cornelius); two sons, David Deadwiler (Kim) and George Miller Jr (Tia); sister, Sarah “Louise” Rudolph; two brothers, Leon McMullen (Catherine) and Fletcher “Rabbit” McMullen (Johnnie); fourteen grandchildren, Adrian, Daonna, Acamea, David Jr, Davina Deadwiler, Cornelius Jr., and Alicia Dickens, Byron, Sasha, and Jayden Miller, Jaden White, Amari Lacey, Kayla and Leah Littlejohn. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and associates.
LaVon was called from Labor to a greater Reward on his wife birthday, July 21, 2024, in Maryland surrounded by family. His charisma will truly be missed.
