Today, we gather to celebrate the life of my beloved mother Maveun (Queen) Leocadie, a shining star who left an indelible mark on our lives. As we say our final goodbyes, we take comfort in the rich cultural heritage she embodied. In our tradition, we believe that when a loved one passes, their spirit returns to the ancestors. We pray that Maveun Leocadie’s spirit finds peace and joy in the afterlife, surrounded by the love and warmth of our ancestors. My mother was a true matriarch, a pillar of strength and wisdom in our family and in the community. She lived a life of service, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her free spirit, generosity, kindness, selflessness, and compassion inspired countless people, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. As a bonafide culinary artist, mommy brought creativity, adventure , fun and beauty to every aspect of her life. Her love for music, dance, and celebration was infectious, and she had a gift for bringing people together. Her radiant smile, infectious laughter and compassionate heart illuminated every room she entered . Her presence was a constant comfort in the storms of life. She taught me the true meaning of unconditional love, perseverance and compassion. Though our time together may have ended, the legacy mom leaves behind will forever echo in my heart . Her spirit lives on in the countless lives she has touched , in the laughter we shared , and in the innate love that binds us forever. In the spirit of our ancestors, we honor Aunty Leo’s ( as her nieces and nephews affectionately called her) memory with traditional music, dance, and offerings. We remember her love for family, community, and culture. As we bid farewell to our dear Maveun Leocadie, we take comfort in the words of our ancestors: 'Death is not the end, but a transition to a new beginning.’May mommy’s spirit continue to guide and inspire us on our own life journeys. Until we meet again my sweet mommy.
I love you forever .
