Leslie Greene Mullen, Jr., was born on March 16, 1937, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was the 2nd eldest of seven children born to the late Leslie G. Mullen, Sr. and Polly L. (Snead) Mullen. Les dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized on July 2, 1976, at Morningstar Baptist Church in Clairton, Pennsylvania.
Les attended Clairton High School in Clairton, Pennsylvania and entered the United States Air Force in 1954. He was stationed in Guam and often sent home gifts to his sisters: Irene, Janice, Jackie, Ida, Gaynelle, and Jean. After Les was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force, he spent several years working in Washington, D.C. as a delivery driver. He then moved back to Pennsylvania and began what would become a highly-decorated and accomplished law enforcement career by joining the Pennsylvania Police Academy in 1967.
Les united in marriage to Donna (Johnson) Mullen in 1965. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Angela Denise Mullen-Akporiaye, and Leslie Jerome Mullen, III.
Les was a life-long learner and believed that education was the key to success. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Delaware for Criminal Justice. Most recently, at the age of 78, he attended Bowie State University as a "Golden Student" majoring in Sociology. Always wearing a suit and tie to classes, he was the "Best Dressed Student" on campus!
