Madeline M. Hicks

We celebrate the life and the memories of Madeline “Madge” Hicks of Bowie, Md who passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on December 22, 2021.  Madge was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. 

She was born to Mr & Mrs Bernard O’Konski on December 3,1946 in Baltimore, Md.  After graduating from high school, Madge married and started a family; she had 3 children with her first husband. Madge was interested in banking and finance; she worked for Tower Federal Credit Union until she retired in 2001.

Madge remarried to the love of her life, Dan Hicks in 1988, she was a devoted wife and then became a step-mother.  Being a mother and step-mother to 5 children, she enjoyed hosting family cook-outs and other get-togethers with friends.  Madge loved hosting Christmas Eve with her husband at their house every year, decorating the tree, cooking the most delicious meals and handing out Christmas Stockings with little treats and special gifts in them.   Madge was overjoyed when grandchildren started to be born, she had so much love to give to her 9 grandchildren plus Madge became a great-grandmother in 2019. 

Madge had many friends at the Bowie Senior Center and her local Starbucks where they would gather often to meet and hangout.  Madge enjoyed bus trips to New York City, vacationing in Cancun, and Niagara Falls, and trips to visit family and friends in Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana.  Madge was an avid reader, she enjoyed going out for dinner and watching many movies and tv shows with her husband.  

Madge is survived by her husband Daniel Hicks Sr.  Her sister Patricia Mueller, brother Bernard (Bernadette) OKonski. Five children and their spouses: Theresa (Joseph) Busch, Jeffrey Kalwa, Christopher (Erica) Kalwa, Mary (Christopher) Mazetis, and Daniel Hicks Jr. She was adored by nine grandchildren and their spouses: Christine, Brandon, Alexis, Emma, Dalton, Lindsay (Shawn), Casey (Tyler), Daniel and Hannah, and great-grandchild Sophia.  She is greatly missed by her beloved cat Bella.
