Malcolm (Mac) Isaiah McNeill was born on February 2, 1945 in Raeford, North Carolina. He was the beloved son of the late Malcolm (Make) Johnson, Jr. and Celiann McNeill. He was called home to be with God on June 7, 2021.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, beloved sisters Mary Connors, Marie Phillips, Annie Malloy, his brother James McNeill and his cherished grandson Elijah Davis.
Mac is survived by his loving children, sons Michael McNeill, Brian McNeill, Shaun McNeill, Kevin McNeill, and beloved daughter, Antoinette (Toni) McNeill-Whetstone of Philadelphia, PA. He is deeply missed by his sister Christine Williams. He has left loving memories to his grandchildren Zoe McNeill, Brandon McNeill, Miles McNeill, Tay Evans, Jonathan Evans, and Darrius Whetstone, and great-grandchildren Laila, Zanyah, and Hamza, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mac moved to Washington, DC in 1971 from his home in Raeford, North Carolina. He participated in many training programs and jobs, notably in Marriott Food Service at American University. He enjoyed attending his son’s basketball and soccer games and was an avid sports fan and undying fan of the Washington Redskins. He even had his house painted in the team’s colors.
His family and friends all agree he was “one of a kind”. He held court on his front porch with neighbors, family, and friends regaling them with anecdotes and opinions. He had the honorary title of “Mayor of 4th Street”. He loved his house and wanted nothing more than to go home even when it was no longer possible.
He was proud, ornery, stubborn and strong-willed, which made him a survivor in this life. He was funny, loving and caring for his children and extended family. He had a deep faith and was never hesitant to get on his knees and pray for what he needed and for all those he loved. He liked to discuss the Bible and he loved to debate whether you wanted to hear him or not.
Life for us will never be the same without him but we are together in celebrating his time here among us and will forever cherish the memories he made. He fought the good fight to try to overcome the health issues assailing him, but in the end, surrounded by his family, he died peacefully without pain.
