Margaret “Marge” Carroll Mallon
Born May 13, 1936, returned to the Lord on June 27, 2024
Marge was born prematurely at home in Chicago, Illinois. At only 4 pounds, she defied the odds and lived, by being the first baby in Chicago to use an incubator recently installed in a cab on the way to the hospital.
She grew into the faithful loving daughter of James Francis Carroll and Anna Elizabeth (Moriarty) Carroll. She is preceded in death by her much loved siblings, brother James F. Carroll, and sisters Mary Alice Conlon and Anne Theresa Carroll.
Beloved wife of Dennis Richard Mallon, much loved mother of Michael (& Anne) Mallon, Gregory (& Neicea ) Mallon, and MaryAnne (& John) Neuens. She was preceded in death by her infant son Thomas James Mallon. She was a loving grandmother to Shay, Colin, Daniel, Scott & Evan Mallon, John & Annie Neuens. She was delighted in her great grandchildren TJ, Josie, James, and Calvin. Marge was dedicated to and delighted in her family and had a close and loving relationship with many of her nephews and nieces.
As a young woman, Marge left Chicago and pursued a career in the Washington D.C. area, where she met her husband to be, Dennis Mallon on a blind date and instantly knew he was something special. They married in Chicago on April 12, 1958 and celebrated their 66th Anniversary earlier this year.
Marge & Dennis began a family in northern Virginia, welcoming sons Michael and Gregory in quick succession. In the early 60s they bought their home in Bowie, Maryland. Unfortunately the move to Bowie coincided with the birth and tragic loss of their infant son Thomas. Happily, they were blessed with a daughter, Mary Anne, a couple of years later.
Marge was a loving, feisty, active young lady with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed playing in a softball league in her youth, and was a member of a bowling league while raising a family in Bowie, MD. Marge & Dennis made the most of their time in Bowie making many life long friends and keeping busy with their involvement in church, social activities, sporting and school activities. Marge went back to work as a Bookkeeper after the children had all started school.
Marge & Dennis then retired to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1983 where they participated in their local Daytona Beach golf league for both sport and social activities. As time went by, they were also there as a support to her elderly parents, eventually taking care of her invalid mother in their home for a decade. A wonderful example of loving christian care. As always, Marge’s vibrant personality and compassionate nature made them many life long friends and they were very active in their church. She became a Eucharistic minister and would visit those confined to home to give them communion. Just one example of her faithful service to the Lord.
After a particularly onerous hurricane season, Marge & Dennis decided to move up to Newnan, Georgia. Fortunately, Michael & Anne, and their sons were nearby so they were able to enjoy family time with them. Once again Marge’s charm, quick wit, and common sense made them many friends. They belonged to a Bunco group, Marge was the HOA secretary and was part of a group called “Lora’s Ladies”, she continued church activities, golfing, and was a compassionate and caring confidant for friends in need.
Then in 2016, Marge & Dennis moved to live with Mary Anne & John where they built a custom lovely snug suite onto their house and once again quickly integrated into the community. Marge was a “social butterfly” much loved by all who met her. Although slowing a bit she still managed to golf occasionally, served communion in the church and enjoyed family and friends.
Unfortunately this May she moved one last time to be with Greg & Neicea on Hospice. Despite her ailments, Marge’s personality, faithfulness and joy in life and her family were still very evident. When she realized the seriousness of her situation she immediately prayed a blessing for her family and thanked the Lord for all of his graces towards her, an amazing example to her family of her ingrained faith and compassion.
Her Family is broken hearted at her Loss, but takes comfort in her faithfulness and the many blessings she has bestowed on us.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christophers Church in Chester, MD on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 at 11:00am, with interment to occur at Crownsville Veteran’s Cemetery in a private ceremony at a later date.
Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
