Marilyn Kay Ulgur

July 22, 1941 — March 17, 2021

Marilyn Ulgur died in Baltimore on March 17, 2021, at the age of 79. She was known to all as a nurturer, devoted to her husband, four children, nine grandchildren and animals everywhere.

Marilyn was born in Harrisburg, Pa., to the late Mark and Catherine Sweger. She met her husband, Ulku Ulgur, in 1961 at the Harrisburg State Hospital where he was a physician, when she was bringing in an armful of Christmas gifts for disabled patients. Two years later they moved to Maryland, where Marilyn's unrivaled crab cake recipe quickly earned her native status.

When Marilyn wasn't filling up family and friends with her crab and homemade fudge, she was taking care of the animals. The blue jays, cardinals and chickadees will miss her, as will her most recent four-legged friend: a red fox who would faithfully come visit her window every day to gather the goodies she would leave.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Ulku Ulgur; her daughters Denise Graziano, Suzan Stratakis, Inci Ulgur and Denet Adam; her grandchildren Jared and Gabriella Graziano; Jordan, Skylar and Zoe Wynne; Zeki Hirsch; Chloe, Ella and Lilly Adam; and her sons in law Gus Stratakis, Adam Hirsch and Levent Adam. She was predeceased by her son in law Edward Graziano.

She will be interred at Druid Ridge Cemetery where she loved to take her children and grandchildren to feed the ducks when they were little. Funeral services are private.

The best way to toast Marilyn is with a very strong cup of coffee, but an occasional Manhattan will also do just fine. To honor Marilyn's unwavering commitment to care for and protect animals in need, donations in her memory can be made to the Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown, Md. https://bmorehumane.kindful.com/?campaign=1067930
