Marion passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday August 1, 2018. Marion was born January 15, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to Margaret Murphy and Michael Quinn. On April 24 1947 she married Navy Veteran Robert “Bud” May. They began their life together in Canarsie, NY where their three children were born. They then spent 40 years in Floral Park NY before moving to Bowie, MD to be closer to their grandchildren. While living in Floral Park, Bud joined the VFW and Marion joined what was then known as the Ladies Auxiliary. She quickly became very active and rose through the ranks to become the Nassau County VFW Auxiliary President. During her 55 plus years of service, her biggest achievement was to get Nassau County to open a POW/MIA Memorial Garden in Eisenhower Park. POW/MIA Recognition Day continues to be held at the garden each year. Her passion for the VFW continued when she moved to Maryland and she quickly became very involved in the Bowie VFW Auxiliary. One of her favorite projects was the “Patriot’s Pen” competition. She worked with local schools to have students submit essays which she then partnered with the Bowie Senior Center writing group for blind judging. She was always thrilled when one of those essays won locally and moved up to the state and national level competitions. She loved attending the annual VFW convention in Ocean City each year. One of her proudest moments was being honored for her work with Veterans in the 2013 Bowie Memorial Day Parade. Marion also enjoyed her time volunteering at the reception desk at the Bowie Senior Center and taking some of their many trips each year. Marion is survived by her daughters Eileen Brady (Thomas) of Bowie, MD and Patricia May of Ashburn, VA and her grandchildren Tara Brady, Tim Brady and Bridget Brady. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and son Gerald.
