Marion Ruth Wise of Bowie, Maryland, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 91 on November 7, 2023.
Marion was born in Hillsboro, Illinois on May 26, 1932, youngest daughter to Alfred Franklin Long and Ruth Adela Orvis. Marion received her Nurses RN degree after high school, then shortly thereafter, met her future husband, Daniel G. Wise. Marion and Dan were married in 1953 in Chicago, Illinois.
Marion and Dan began raising their family of four in the Chicago suburbs, then moved to Willingboro, New Jersey before settling in Bowie, Maryland in 1971 where Dan spent most of his career working as an aeronautic engineer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. They were both long time members of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, in Bowie MD. Marion was active there in the bell choir and many church projects.
Marion retired from her various nursing jobs and was able to pursue her quilting passion full-time. She was a long time member of the Southern Comforters Quilt Guild of Bowie, and has created a prolific number of beautiful quilts over the years, enjoyed as gifts by many far and wide. Marion also received many awards and accolades for her quilting work over the years, including the many quilting competitions she became involved with.
Marion and Dan also had the wonderful opportunity to travel broadly during their retirement years.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband Dan (12/27/2020), her parents, Alfred Long and Ruth (Orvis) Long, her brothers, Kenneth and Edward Long and her sister, Elva (Long) Hutchinson. She is survived by son Tom Wise, daughter-in-law Linda; daughter Karyn Grande, son-in-law Nick Grande, granddaughter Allie Grande; son Doug Wise, daughter-in-law, Nevan Pearson-Cody Wise; Sue Jewell, son-in-law Bruce Jewell, grandsons Kevin Jewell and Eric Jewell and granddaughter Shannon Jewell, and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Marion will be held at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church at 14900 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, MD 20715, on Saturday, November 25th at 4:00 PM.
