It is with both sadness and a sense of celebration that we honor the life and legacy of Mark Allen Young, who departed from this world at age 60 on May 5, 2024, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Anna Young, and a special aunt and uncle (Godparents); Rose and Daniel Tomasulo.
Mark was born on June 20, 1963, in Buffalo, NY. He attended Buffalo Elementary School #18 and graduated from Lafayette High School on June 23, 1981. He then attended Daemen College in Amherst, New York.
Mark accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. His First Holy Communion was at Our Lady of Loretto Church on May 2, 1971. He was spiritual and strong in his Catholic faith.
As a child, Mark realized he had a gift for creative writing. Friends and family encouraged this endeavor and would ask him to write poems for them to share with their loved ones. Mark’s dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to writing led him to become a published writer.
Mark worked for the Buffalo News for twenty years. He then moved to Tampa, Florida where he worked as a courier and process server. Mark relocated to Laurel, Maryland when he was given the opportunity for a career in the freight industry, which he fell in love with. In his ambition, drive, and determination Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch his own freight company, MYoung Freight Systems. With much success, it was open from November 2010-2017. After he closed the business Mark had some health challenges. He later became a licensed notary and continued working in the freight industry.
Mark was an avid sports fan. Growing up he played little league baseball with the Westside Jr. Baseball Club. Over the course of his life, he made it a mission to visit as many baseball parks as he could. He was a true New Yorker and loved his New York Mets and Buffalo Bills.
He enjoyed reading, traveling, learning about new things, and the simplest pleasures in life. Although he did not have children of his own, he had a passion to help young people and gave charitable donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mark had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He had a smile and laugh that would fill up a room. He made an impression on everyone that he came into contact with. He will be greatly missed.
Mark, you were truly loved.
Your life will continue to live on in our hearts and in our memories.
