Mary Ann Boyer, 86, of Bowie Maryland, died of metastatic poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma/large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung on July 14, 2024 at home in the care of her beloved husband and family. Mary Ann, born April 17th, 1938, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was the youngest of two children born to the late Mary and Robert Burns. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert, daughter Mary Pat (in infancy) and daughter Kathy. Beloved wife of 67 years of William Boyer; mother of Lynne Griffin; grandmother of Chas, Katie, Matt, Michael, Maryclaire, Will, Tom, and Taryne; great grandmother of Charlie, Frankie, Harper, Nicky, Teddy, Penelope, Annie, and Lizzie. Mary Ann attended grammar school at Saint Catherine Labouré and graduated from Bishop McDevitt School in Harrisburg in 1956. She was an honor roll student and well liked by her nuns and classmates. She met William at six years old playing on the fields of Harrisburg. They married in 1957 and moved to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania where her husband attended college. They welcomed daughter Kathy in 1960 and moved to Emmitsburg, Maryland in 1961 where William taught High School. In 1963 her family of three moved to Bowie, Maryland for William's job, where she ended up staying and loving her tight knit community of Bowie. In 1964, they welcomed daughter Lynne and her family was complete. Mary Ann was an amazing mother and her job was her family. In addition to homemaking, she found time to travel throughout the country, spending summers in both the west coast and Europe. After her girls graduated, she worked as a parish secretary at Ascension Catholic Church alongside her great friend, Father Henry. When Kathy and Lynne began having children she retired to take on her position as grandmother, better known as "Mimi". She took her role very seriously which resulted in her grandchildren worshipping the ground she walked on. Friends and family adored Mary Ann, however, her grandchildren had a special infatuation with her. She treated her beloved grandchildren as her own children, who spent their weekends and summers with her, making memories, traveling to her favorite places, walking the bike path, and learning her famous recipes such as her pot pie and chocolate chip cookies. The love for her family manifested through her grandchildren to her great grandchildren. Mary Ann's wisdom and positivity was a guiding light for her family. Even in the final stages of her illness, she was more concerned for her family's well being over her own. She was a gift to everyone she knew and her legacy is palpable through the people she loved. On Friday, July 26, 2024, we will celebrate Mary Ann's full and abundantly generous life and her birth into eternal life, with the Mass of Resurrection at 11 o’clock at St. Edward, the Confessor, Catholic Church, 1940 Mitchellville Road, Bowie, Maryland 20716, followed by a repast at the Church.
