Mary (Catherine) Turbeville Miller

Mary (Catherine) Turbeville Miller, a longtime resident of New Carrollton, Maryland, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on February 24, 2025, at the age of 90. Born June 30, 1934, in Miami, Florida to Orville and Katie Turbeville, Mary began a lifetime of love, laughter, and community spirit. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings—Harold, Dorothy, Robert, and Johnny.

After graduating from Miami High School in 1952, Mary went to work as a secretary at the Miami Herald newspaper. Married on April 26, 1958, Mary and her beloved husband, Arthur, spent 67 cherished years together. She took a job at U.S. News & World Report after she and Arthur settled in Maryland. In 1960, they started a family, and Mary became a homemaker.

Mary was blessed with two daughters, Wanda (Kenny) and Laura (Steve) and four grandchildren, Damian, Matthew, Adam, and Katie. Mary’s wit and humor were always the highlight of family gatherings, where her legendary deviled eggs were a much-anticipated treat.

Mary’s participation in the local bowling league, bridge club, Chi Sigma charitable sorority, as well as local politics demonstrated her love for playful competition and community service.

In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Mary leaves behind a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and life-long friends who loved her dearly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by the service at 4:00 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a later date in a private ceremony.
