Mary Catherine Newman (Winter)
January 23, 1939 – March 2, 2025
Mary Catherine Newman was a devout wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She exuded love and grace throughout her extraordinary life. She began her career with AT&T telephone company and loved telling stories about working as a switchboard operator. She and her husband Bill worked hard to raise their loving family. As her children grew, she became a volunteer at Mt. Calvary Catholic School in Forestville, MD. That work as a volunteer led her to run the health room. Mrs. Newman, as she was known to everyone, was a fixture of the school for over 30 years.
To know Mary was to know unconditional love. Every visit and phone call ended with the words “love you,” fitting in as many as she could before the phone call or visit ended. Her greatest joy was her family and giving love to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. This love took many shapes over the course of her lifetime as the matriarch of the Newman family.
Mary was a devout catholic and a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. She believed fully in the beauty and power of God, and her family is comforted to know that she is at peace and reunited with so many of her loved ones who were called home before her.
Mary is survived by her children William Newman (Marianne), Linda Russo (Lawrence), and Janet Dusseau (David); grandchildren Ashley Kerns (Noah Herman), Richard Newman, Matthew Kerns (Krystal), Jason Kerns (Breanna), Ryan Dusseau and Stephen Dusseau; great grandchildren Chance, Nikolai, Michael, Piper, Parker, Anabelle and Oliver; siblings Barbara Clifton, James Winter, Kathleen Adams, Sharon Winter, Robert Winter, Karen Malafy and countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
