It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Matthew Mitrione, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Matt was born on December 26th, 1958, and left this world on July 28th, 2024, after a valiant battle with leukemia. He was a well decorated police officer with over 30 years of service and an avid hunter, known for his passion of hunting and the outdoors.
Matthews love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, his daughters Alexis (Adrian Peralta) and Meghan. Matthew was a devoted husband and father, a caring brother to Maria, Linda, Dan, Melanie (Thomas Ebert), David (Ania), Melissa, and John (Yulie), and a loving uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.
Matt was predeceased by his father Dan Mitrione, his mother Henrietta Mitrione (Lindt), and his sister Louann.
Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Matt was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He cherished his faithful companions, Apollo and Khalessi, who were by his side through thick and thin.
Matt will be deeply missed by his many friends and family members. His legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all. The arrangements for Matthew will be a viewing on August 6th, 2024, from 4-7 pm at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie Maryland. There will be a mass Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ascension Catholic Church in Bowie Maryland. Mass will be followed by a reception to share memories and celebrate the life of Matthew; the reception will be held at the Old Bowie Town Grille (8604 Chestnut Ave, Bowie, MD 20715). The family hopes you are able to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Officer Down Memorial or Leukemia Research Foundation, organizations Matthew felt strongly about.
