Mrs. Maureen P. Cissel was the only child born on September 18, 1965 to the late Raymon A. Wise and Diane P. Byram in Cheverly Maryland. She had a supportive family of Aunts, Uncles and cousins that loved her and helped to raise and provide her great family memories. “Reenie”, as her family and friends referred to her in her younger years attended Edmonston Elementary School, St. Jerome Catholic School and graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg Maryland. She later attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Maureen married the love of her life on July 7, 2011. She and Mike had been friends for more than 20 years before they married. The foundation of their love and marriage could not have been stronger. They shared many common interests and enjoyed traveling, spending time on and near the water, and any new adventure they could do together.
Mother to one daughter, Dr. Brianna W. Schur, Maureen did her best to provide Brianna the best quality of life and variety of life experiences possible to help to become the smart, successful woman Brianna is today. Maureen was a Girl Scout Leader, chaperoned field trips, sat on the side lines cheering during swim meets, cross country and track meets, drama, chorus recitals and countless equestrian events up and down the east coast.
Grammie to one amazing young lady, Abilene McKenzie Schur, “Abby” is beautiful, energetic and fun loving. Grammie’s favorite thing about seeing Abby is the “ginormous” hugs she gives. Grammie and Abby enjoyed tea parties, getting fancy and going to shows together.
Maureen was employed by Prince George’s County Government and retired with 30 years of service. After her retirement she continued her career working as a consultant for 5 years. Maureen was detail oriented and a problem solver and never asked more from others than she was willing to give herself. Throughout her career Maureen continued to study and worked to gain expertise in the engineering field. Her accomplishments included: Certification from the National Institute of Engineering Technologies in Highway Design and Transportation Construction, she was also a Certified Floodplain Manager and Project Manager Professional. She felt fortunate to have the opportunity to work with mentors and friend that helped and supported her throughout her career. Maureen was proud of every project she worked on including the following award winning projects: Brookes Lane Mitigation Project (the goats), Suitland Road/Andrews Air Force Base Gateway Beautification and Anacostia Levee Restoration which won Best Small Project, Bests Project over $1M and Best Project over $10M respectively from the County Engineer Association of Maryland and recognition from the Maryland Quality Initiative and American Council of Engineering Companies.
