Michael Micciolo was born on April 15, 1961 in Philadelphia, PA to Michael and Dolly Micciolo. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1979, and worked in the automotive industry until 1996. At that time he left to work for Lockheed Martin in New Jersey, followed by a stint as a Locomotive Engineer for the railroad in Philadelphia. He fully transitioned back to the aerospace industry in 1999 when he moved to Maryland to work at Goddard Space Flight Center. He was an Engineering Technician in the Thermal/Vacuum Operations Group, and major projects he was involved in were the Hubble Space Telescope and its recent replacement, the James Webb Space Telescope.
Mike exhibited a true zest for life. He was adventurous, and loved his cars and riding his motorcycle. He worked hard and played hard, enjoyed indulging in the finer things in life, and traveled extensively through the United States and the world.
He loved the outdoors, and when he became a father, he enjoyed taking his son camping and to the beach. Mike had a passion for cooking and loved to cook for a crowd, organizing many work and personal functions. He was a huge music buff with a vast collection of music, and he had an extensive musical knowledge.
Mike became a grandfather in 2019, and his grandson was the apple of his eye. He was very social and could talk to anyone about anything. Mike was always a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy who lived his life with integrity and authenticity. He was held in high regard by his colleagues and friends and he will be deeply missed.
Mike is survived by his beloved son Josh, his daughter-in-law Becky and his grandson Dimitri, and his love Nancy Crim. He is also survived by his extensive family consisting of his parents, sisters, brothers, and other relatives.
