Michael William Ryan, Jr.

Michael “Mickey” Ryan, Jr., 59, of Bowie, MD passed away peacefully in Annapolis on Tuesday evening, October 11, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his children, Calvin Ryan of New Brunswick, NJ; and Shelby Ryan of Queenstown, MD; and their mother, Gloria Ryan of Queenstown, MD.

Mickey was the cherished son of the late Michael and Barbara Ryan. He was the caring brother of Beth (Tony) Mancini of Lake Wales, FL; Patricia Ryan of Edgewater, MD; Thomas Ryan of Lanham, MD; Dennis (Laura) Ryan of Arlington, VA; Shannon (Chris) Lopez of Winter Haven, FL; and Mary Meghan Ryan of Gambrills, MD. He is also survived by his devoted companion, Denise Graham of Chester, MD.

Mickey was born on January 31, 1963 in Washington, DC. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in 1982 and earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Bowie State University in 1989; a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 1992; and a Juris Doctor from Howard University in 1997.

He was a steadfast advocate for the underprivileged, a lifelong collector of baseball cards and a rabidly passionate fan of middling local sports teams.

Mickey’s life will be celebrated at a funeral Mass on Saturday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie, MD. Father Michael Jones will preside.

A reception will follow at the Courtyard by Marriott Bowie, which is located at 16800 Science Dr, Bowie, MD 20715
