Don’t Cry for Me…Celebrate My Life
Michael Thomas Sharp, beloved brother, brother-in-law, and uncle peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on January 1, 2024, at his home in NW Washington, DC. Michael was born July 1,1947 in Washington, DC to the late Lawrence Washington Sharp, Sr., and the late Elizabeth Beatrice (Jackson) Sharp. He was the eighth of nine children. Michael was educated in Washington, DC public schools until 1960 when the family moved to Chapel Oaks, MD, and he was educated in the Prince George’s County, MD public schools. He graduated in 1967 from Fairmont Heights Senior High School, Chapel Oaks, MD. In high school Michael was a cool operator with mischievous ways and a crazy sense of humor. He was known by his classmates as “Top Cat.” His family affectionately knew him as “Tom Cat” and “Tom Slick” because of his sharp dressing and style.
In 1967 Michael joined the United States Army to fight in the Vietnam War. He received a General Discharge and fought the Department of Defense and received his Honorable Discharge on June 3, 1977.
Upon returning home from the Vietnam War, Michael worked briefly at Fairfield (Marriott) Logistics in Chapel Oaks, MD, and Briggs & Company Meat-Processing Plant in Landover, MD. In his later years Michael worked for Goodwill Industries of Washington, D.C. He saved his money and purchased his first car, a blue 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner.
Michael was baptized in the Lutheran Church, Hyattsville, MD. He loved his football home teams, the Washington Redskins (aka Washington Commanders) and the Washington Wizards. He would call his brother every week and inquire what time and channel the game was on. His food and drink of choice were steaks, shrimp, crabs, cherries, and a good cold A&W Root Beer soda. He also had a strong sweet tooth for cakes.
Michael was loved by his family and will be missed. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted brother and sister-in law, Myron O. and Diane Sharp, along with their children (his nieces and nephew) Sharae, Janelle, and Tre’Von Sharp and their children (great-nieces and nephew), Taelor-Shanel Sanders, Brea and Bruce Brown, III.
