MICHAEL STEPHEN TROIANO, of Columbia, Maryland, entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the age of 64 in the loving presence of his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his father, Benito A. Troiano, his son Michael Lee Troiano, and his siblings Nicholas (Sharon) Troiano; Tony Troiano; Peggy Troiano, Mary Troiano (Fitzmorris); and Vincent (Cynthia) Troiano. He was a dear uncle to ten-nieces and nephews and five-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother, Joan C. Troiano and sister, Katherine Troiano Lehar.
Born on February 11th, 1957, in Washington D.C., Mike spent his beginning stages of life alongside his siblings in their house on Kennedy St. NW, the same childhood home of their father Benito and his nine siblings. Shortly after in 1960, he and his mother, and the rest of the Troiano family relocated to Millersville, MD, to nestle into what would be proudly known as Beverly Hall, a sanctuary for everlasting bonds and timeless memories.
Leading up to his graduation from Arundel High School in 1975, Mike found joy in expanding his horizons and testing his athletic ability, joining both the gymnastics team and the leadership club his junior and senior year. Early in his career, he spent some time as a journeyman in his desired trade as an electrician, later deciding to assume his role in the Troiano family Tile & Marble business. In November of 1993, at the age of 36, Mike and his former wife Michele, welcomed their son Michael Lee Troiano (Mikey) into the world.
Mike truly mastered the art of embracing life and all it had to offer. He cherished the present moment, saw value in what most could not, and never allowed his pride to let too much time pass before offering his forgiveness or a deserving apology.
He had a refined palate for Italian cuisine and took pride in his close, but not quite perfect recreations of family recipes. Rest assured, that with every meal he prepared came a heavy aroma of fresh garlic, and an even heavier pour of his favorite wine.
His passion for nostalgia and reminiscing on the glory days of his youth was like no other. As a child, he would spend hours practicing his impression of the dynamic sound and stage presence of his idol Elvis Presley, and once perfected, he left crowds in awe as he performed hit songs at family gatherings and late-night outings.
Though his body and mind aged with time, his heart and soul would linger behind. As an avid collector of antiques and vintage memorabilia, he was humbly unimpressed by the products of modernity. Loyal to his classic television shows and oldies tunes, he was forever intoxicated by the reminiscent sensation they gave, of youthful vibrance and the carefree times he cherished so very much.
As a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, Mike never missed an opportunity to express his unconditional love and gratitude toward those he cared for most. In all walks of life, it was without question that those who crossed his path felt forever fortunate to have experienced such grace. Those who knew him, would agree that he was undoubtedly one of the most kind, soft-hearted, and humble beings they've had the honor of knowing.
Though he will be deeply missed... and the memories we have will be all that remains, how lucky we should feel to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church 1070 Cecil Avenue, Millersville, MD 21108 on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., followed by mass and burial of his ashes.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital stjude.org/donatetoday or Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, http://seasonsfoundation.org.
