Miles Spencer Hill was born in Frederick, Maryland on August 24, 1955 to Kenneth T. Hill (Bartonsville, MD) and Setsuko (Patsy) Masaoka Hill (Kawasaki, Japan). The family including his sister Zina Jones, lived on Tachikawa Airbase in Japan for 3 years between 1963 and 1966 before returning to Frederick, Maryland.
Miles graduated from Frederick High School in 1973. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1988, he earned his MBA from George Washington University in the District of Columbia.
For 20 years, Miles worked as a mechanical engineer with Westinghouse. After the merge of Westinghouse with Lockheed Martin, Miles took time to fulfill a life-long dream of driving trucks. He returned to Leidos-Lockheed Martin to the IT Division as a network engineer in 2002 and retired in January 2017. In retirement, Miles picked up gardening and took pride in maintaining his lawn at his Bowie home.
On November 13, 2020, Miles passed away at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Setsuko Hill. He is survived by his sister, Zina Jones, his brother-in-law, Melvin Jones Jr, his nephew, Melvin Jones III, his niece, Angelique Jones, and his uncles James Hill of Fayetteville, GA, and Dwight Hill of Bartonsville, Maryland and his aunts Eiko and Tsuru Masaoka of Tokyo, Japan as well as numerous cousins in the U.S. and Japan.
Miles’ final resting place will be outside of Tokyo, Japan alongside his mother.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family suggests making a donation to the American Heart Association in Miles’ name.
