Mitchellville, Maryland
Myrtle Ruth Bowings, age 100, of Mitchellville Maryland, born May 19, 1924, in Winterville North Carolina to the late Joseph and Julia Baker, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024.
Myrtle was a devoted wife, sharing 45 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, James Robert Bowings, Jr., who preceded her in death on October 17, 1988. Following his passing, Myrtle was lovingly cared for by her daughter Hazel, with whom she lived for the better part of 36 years. She was a loving and caring mother to her three children and cherished every moment spent with her family.
Myrtle's life was filled with adventure and joy. She delighted in traveling the world with her late husband and her cherished church friends. She loved spending time with her family, watching game shows, playing cards (with anyone willing to join her), and enjoying holidays surrounded by her loved ones. She also found simple pleasure in reading her mail.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. Myrtle is survived by her three children: Hazel Sullivan (and her late husband John Sullivan), Helen Smith, and Robert Bowings (wife Norma Bowings); her five grandchildren: Linda Kulle (husband Matthew), Michelle West (Steve Kessler), Emily Sullivan, the late Robert Bowings, Jr., and Angela Coleman (husband George); nine great-grandchildren: Michael West, Steven Kulle, Bradlee West, Shane Kulle, Preston Wimbish, Caleb Coleman, Abigail Coleman, Luke Coleman, and Emma Coleman; and three great-great-grandchildren: Beauregard Kulle, Mason West, and Morgan West.
Visitation will be held at Beall Funeral Home (6512 Cain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715) on Wednesday, June 12th at 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 13th, followed by a private family burial at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Myrtle's remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a cause dear to Myrtle’s heart.
Myrtle’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
