Nancy Calder, 69 years old of Odenton, MD passed away on October 19 from brain cancer.
Nancy was born May 25, 1953 to James and Grace Giannini in Philadelphia, PA. Her family relocated to Springfield, PA where she attended Cardinal O’Hara High School. She went on to pursue a degree in Medical Technology at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. After graduating in 1975, she began her career as a microbiologist at Bryn Mawr hospital where Nancy discovered her passion for teaching. After obtaining a Masters Degree in Education from Villanova University, Nancy was promoted to the education program director for Medical Technology at Main Line Health.
In 1972, Nancy began dating her husband Bob. Nancy and Bob were married on April 24, 1976 and went on to have two sons – Stephen and Thomas. Eventually, Nancy became a mom-mom to grandbabies Bella and Jude.
Nancy and Bob’s careers took them to the DFW area of Texas; Midlothian, Virginia; back to Texas and finally to Maryland where she enjoyed being in close proximity to both of her sons and their families. After moving to Maryland, Nancy began her career as a professor at Howard Community College where she built from the ground up a program for educating medical technology professionals. Her passion for teaching continued throughout her life, as well as her desire to be of service to others. Nancy also served as the Associate Dean for Health Sciences at the college.
Nancy is survived by her husband Bob, sons Stephen and Thomas and brothers John and Jim.
Nancy's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 24 at noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr, Crofton, MD 21114. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any gifts to be made to the Beatrice Jean Calder Scholarship through the Howard Community College Educational Foundation at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044, or call 443-518-1970.
