Nancy D. McKenzie, 88, of Kent Island Md passed away on November 24, 2020 peacefully in her sleep.
She was born on May 1, 1932, daughter of the late John C and Ellen Dorsey. She is survived by her four children, sons Richard Lee McKenzie Jr, Thomas Dorsey McKenzie and daughters Karen Kennedy and Lynn McKenzie Trevino. She is also survived by her nineteen grandchildren, their spouses and ten great grandchildren.
Nancy graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park Maryland in 1953. She had been a majorette at the University and having met Richard McKenzie Sr at a university parade, she married and became an air force wife. Nancy had four children in different states all over the country while supporting her husband in his military duties.
Nancy was an avid sportswoman enjoying snow skiing, water skiing and golf. She flew single engine planes at sixteen years old in 1948. She was trained as a pilot in Riverdale Maryland at the youngest age allowed by the civil aeronautics’ administration. She was an exceptional cook and a domestic genius. She prioritized others domestically all her life with her four-year Home economics degree, of which her children were great beneficiaries. She adored all children, both here and around the world. She was a strict disciplinarian that also gave gracious and voluminous attention, fun and lovely memories to any child blessed enough to be near her. Nancy enjoyed box games and card games. She frequently played such for hours as a mother with her young children and later with children of any age while serving homemade treats and meals. She was not a homebody however. Nancy travelled the world from China to India with both grandchildren and friends alike.
Nancy was a Christian and she was from a lineage that included multiple pastors. Nancy served for a decade in the ranks of the Christian women’s club of Maryland. She was a faithful witness for Christ to many. For seven years, she served on the board of Children’s Fellowship of India. Nancy made many trips to India during this time to serve at orphanages CFI ministries had founded. Nancy was also a patriotic lover of America. She was an ardent supporter of president Donald Trump and his efforts to Make America more unified, just and Christian Again. Nancy lived her entire life focusing on traditional family values and making sure children were in no way left behind or neglected at home or abroad.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. Saturday November 28th, with a memorial service from 12 to 1 p.m. afterward, at Beall’s Funeral Home 6512 NW Crain Highway Bowie, MD 20715. Internment is following at 2 p.m. at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Prince Georges county, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD.
