Nancy McClellan Wilson

Nancy was born in Williamsville, New York. She graduated from Smith College in 1951 with a BA in Sociology and then completed her Master’s from Syracuse University, with additional post-graduate work completed at the University of Maryland.

She married in 1952 to John Warner Wilson Sr. (deceased). They lived in Syracuse, New York for 14 years before moving for a short time to Tampa, Florida. In 1971, the family moved to College Park, Maryland where they resided for about 15 years before she moved to Heritage Harbor in Annapolis.

Nancy had a long career in teaching from Head Start to elementary school children. It included 20 years as an elementary school teacher in Prince Georges County Maryland. In retirement, Nancy pursued many varied volunteer roles for non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed being a tour guide at Government House and Hammond-Harwood House during her time living in Annapolis. She took on many roles during her 10 years at Collington from Outreach Committee Chair to Country Store to the OO Shop, where she particularly enjoyed her involvement in selling items from the Glass Cases.

She also enjoyed travelling the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica, and especially enjoyed learning about the cultures by connecting with local families. She made regular trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Arizona, Florida, and France.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband and grandson. She is survived by her four children, two daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of organizations that Nancy supported every year herself; the Collington Foundation, WETA TV, or WAMU NPR radio.

The family are planning a memorial service to be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
