Nellie Mary Furr passed away peacefully on April 4, 2020 by surprise; she was surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 28, 1929 to the late Richard James and Helen Turner. She was one of eleven children. She was born in Washington, D.C and lived in Mitchellville, Maryland her entire life. On January 14, 1950, Nellie was united in marriage to Frank Furr. Together they gave birth to a son, Frank J. Furr.
Nellie retired from Prince George’s County Public Schools with over 30 years of service where she worked as a Transportation Assistant. She was well known for her hard work, determination and genuine care. In addition to her public service contributions, she took pride in gardening, carpentry, cooking and fishing. She also enjoyed watching the game show networks, especially Family Feud and The Price is Right. She was known as the family and neighborhood seamstress. She was a proud member of Greater Mount Nebo AME Church in Bowie, Maryland were she served as a dedicated usher. Nellie was one for long conversations and loved to talk about her life experiences shedding laughter, wisdom and tough love whether it was solicited or not.
To celebrate and cherish her life and memory and carry on her legacy of love and compassion, Nellie leaves her son; Frank (Wanda) Furr, four grandchildren; Natalie Crawley, Melanie Furr, Shannon Furr and Frank Furr, Jr., brother; William (Edith) James, and a host of many loving friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held under the caring guidance of the family owned and operated Beall Funeral Home 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 there will be limited access to visitation and no interment or repass at this time.
