Pamela “Pam” Philyaw was called home to Jesus on May 27, 2024 at the age of 70.
Pam was born to Clyde and Evelyn Durst on November 16, 1953 in Washington, D.C.. Pam was a loving sister to Marilee Curran and Debbie Stem. Pam studied Elementary Education and graduated from Bowie State University.
Pam met her husband Gary Philyaw in high school; they married October 18, 1975 and went on to have two children Trevor and Tiffany.
Pam was proud to be one of the first recipients of a bone marrow transplant from a non-related donor in 1988. Pam lived each day with a grateful heart for her donor and for 36 years kept in contact with her. A week prior to Pam’s passing she was able to fulfill a long held desire to properly thank her donor in person.
Pam was a long time member of Cresthill Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the Women’s Group and enjoyed attending and leading bible study. Pam was known for her kindness and generosity. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, visiting with her friends over a cup of coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, hosting baking classes, and crocheting. Pam had a love of butterflies and Yankee Candles.
Pam was preceded in death by her loving husband Gary, her mother Evelyn, and father Clyde. She is survived by her loving family Trevor and Logan Philyaw, Tiffany, Tony, Aiden, and Ethan Knight.
Saturday, June 1st a viewing (9:30) and service (10:30) will be held at Cresthill Baptist Church in Bowie, MD. Internment immediately following at Fort Lincoln Cemetery (12:30) followed by a repass at Cresthill Baptist Church in Bowie, MD.
