Patricia Kay Fouts, aged 86, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away August 15, 2023, at her home in Crofton, Maryland, surrounded by her family.
Kay, as she was known, is remembered by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert Fouts, her three children, Susan Ardoin (David), Steven Fouts (Cora), and James Fouts (Genia), seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nephew Thomas Bolls.
Kay was born on October 11, 1936, in Franklin, Kentucky, to the late H.G. and Mattielee Bolls. She had a younger brother, Larry, who predeceased her in 2020. Growing up, Kay and her family lived in several small towns in Kentucky and Tennessee, but the family eventually settled in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where Kay graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked at Fort Knox Army Base for several years where she met and married Capt. Dennis Whalen, of Fallon, Nevada. After his passing in 1962, she returned to Elizabethtown and later met and married Bob Fouts.
In late 1967, the family moved to Crofton, Maryland, for Bob’s job and Kay created a home for them in Crofton with many visitors from Kentucky over the years. Kay and Bob found a church home in the newly established First Baptist Church of Crofton and were instrumental in moving First Baptist forward to become the church that it is today. An accomplished musician, Kay was the church pianist when First Baptist services were held in the parsonage and later was the organist and choir accompanist in the new church building and served in that role for over fifty years. She took on many other jobs at church, such as Sunday School teacher, head teller, and vacation bible school teacher, in addition to playing for countless weddings, funerals and other special events at the church.
Kay also worked for a court-reporting company as a transcriber for many years, and was able to work from home in that position.
Kay and Bob were always busy in Crofton with their children and grandchildren, playing bridge with their many friends, hosting family for special events and helping out neighbors. She will be missed by so many.
