Patricia Ann Gilligan Perry of New Berlin, NY and Dunedin, FL died on February 13, 2019. She was born on May 25, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Philomena De Bates Gilligan who predeceased her. She was predeceased by John F. Perry, her husband of 52 years, as well as her brothers James B. Gilligan and Leo E. Gilligan.
Patricia enjoyed conversation and loved having great conversations with the people in her life, be they family, friends or new acquaintances. She was an avid reader and crafter, who loved crocheting and needlepoint, and creating things to share with those in her life. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved playing cards and games and sharing the occasional golf game and dancing with her husband, John. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, and raising beautiful African violets, which she readily gave away to others. Patricia was best known for her greeting cards. She made sure everyone in her life received a birthday card and was first to send out thank you notes, cards for every holiday, sympathy, anniversary and think of you cards.
Patricia is survived by her son, Daniel (Maureen) Perry of New Berlin, NY, her daughter Regina (Catherine Williams) Perry of Guilderland, NY, and her daughter Ann Marie (John) Zeaser of Crownsville, MD. She was the grandmother of Ryan (Rachael) Perry of New Berlin, NY, Micah (Meredith) Perry of Arbutus, MD, Raphael Perry of Crownsville, MD, and Regan, Lilly and Danny Zeaser also of Crownsville, MD. She was the great-grandmother of John Ryan Perry and Brielle Haven Perry of New Berlin, NY. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothea Perry Raschdorf of Spotswood, NJ, Margaret Gilmore Gilligan of Washingtonville, NY and Mary Giordano Gilligan of Maywood, NJ. Patricia is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who all meant the world to her.
A graduate of the Class of 1950 from Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn, NY, Patricia was a communicant and Eucharistic minister of Saint Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in New Berlin, NY and Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Dunedin, FL, as well as Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville, MD.
Patricia served as the Town of New Berlin (NY) Supervisor for eleven years, and was also Chairperson of the Town of New Berlin Republican Party for 25 years. She retired in February 1997, where she subsequently served as the President of the Board of Directors at Golden Acres in Dunedin, FL.
Patricia was a Member of the Altar Rosary Society at Saint Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary in New Berlin, NY.
Calling hours will be Friday, February 22, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beall Funeral Home at 6512 Crain Highway, (Rt. 3 South),Bowie, MD. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville, MD on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10 A.M. A private family commitment will be held at the National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY at a later date.
