On Sunday, September 1, 2019, Paul William Carroll, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 85.
Paul was born on July 31, 1934 in Ashville, PA. He graduated from St. Francis University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and from Southeastern University with a Master’s degree in Taxation.
He went to work as an accountant for Fisher Body and Landis and Landis before starting his 30+ year career with the IRS, where he retired as an Administrative Judge.
Paul served in both the Army and Navy where he was honorably discharged and later medically declared a disabled veteran.
He was a federal income tax professor at several graduate schools and had his own tax business for many years until he became legally blind. He served his community and devoted his time as treasurer to the Knights of Columbus, volunteered at the American Legion, Moose, Federal Order of Police, Fleet Reserve and the Elks.
Despite losing his eyesight later in life, when many people would have been defeated, it was only a challenge for Paul. He continued to live life to the fullest by doing the things he loved. He could be found with family and friends “catching fish,” (there was no “fishing” for him), shooting pool (yes, the blind man could still shoot pool), sitting at a pub playing Keno, dancing with his bride or enjoying a dinner celebration with the family. Wherever he was, rest assured, you would see him holding court, as he shared his stories and wisdom to both young and old.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Theresa M. Carroll, his two daughters, Marie Burgett and Linda Carroll, his son Paul Anthony Carroll and his three grandchildren Brooke Burgett, Blaire Burgett and Paul Michael Dunn. He is also survived by his sisters Patricia Brigotti, Peg McCullough, Barbara Murtari and Ruthanne Schaper and his brother, Robert Carroll. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Carroll, his brother Joseph Carroll and his sister Jane Boslett.
