Paul Joseph Truntich, Sr.

Paul Joseph Truntich, Sr. of Crofton, MD, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018 while vacationing in Florida  following a decline in health and valiant battle with cancer. He was a retired Director and District Manager with the old Bell Atlantic and C & P Telephone Companies.

Born on January 3, 1937 in Bobtown, PA, Mr. Truntich attended Point Marion High School where he played football for three years and graduated with honors.   He moved to the Washington DC area in 1954, staying with his sister, Amelia, and graduated from The George Washington University in 1958 with a B.A. Degree in Public Relations and Journalism.

After joining C & P Telephone Company in 1959, he worked in the Plant Department for two years before moving to Public Relations.  In 1968, Mr. Truntich became C & P's Advertising Manager where he supervised the production of a number of international award-winning advertisements in both print and television.  He then joined Bell Atlantic's Public Relations Department as Advertising Manager and retired in 1989 as an Account Management Director for Creative Services

Mr. Truntich graduated from the U.S. Army's Officer Candidate School with the District of Columbia National Guard and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1960 with the Corps of Engineers. From there he moved to the Signal Corps Reserve Unit in Hyattsville, MD before resigning his commission in 1964 as a 1st Lieutenant with the 300th Civil Affairs Group in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He loved traveling, camping, sports, reading, gardening and giving back to his community. Along with his wife, Barbara, he volunteered in the Anne Arundel Medical Center Joint Replacement Unit for over 12 years, provided transportation through his work with Partners in Care, assisted with the Winter Relief Program at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and read to elementary school students throughout Maryland as part of the Pioneers’ Book’em Project.  His greatest joy came from the time spent with his loving family.

Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara, his children, Carrie Richardson (Lee) of Aquasco, Christine Coffren (Jim) of Huntingtown, Paul Truntich, Jr. (Courtney) of Harwood; grandchildren, Caitlin, Lauren, Lee III, Megan, James II, Sean, Jordan, Paul III (PJ); great-grandson, Tanner; sisters , Ann, Albina, Donna and Margaret and many dear nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Katharina Truntich, sisters Amelia and Kay, and brothers, George and Frank.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 6 to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton, MD on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 11am. Inurnment, Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
