Mama Paulina Azah was born to Mama Alieh Lydia and Pa Daniel Alambi, with her father of blessed memory. She has 6 siblings, two of blessed memories and 4 surviving her. From her early days, she carried the values of love, faith, and hard work, which would become the foundation of her remarkable life. Baptized as a Presbyterian, her faith was a guiding light in all her endeavors. She was still an active member of Christian Women’s Fellowship(CWF) at her church,Presbyterian Church Ngomgham Mankon, where she worshipped and paid all her dues for over 42years. There, she is remembered for her love for playing the “Gong”.
She was united in holy matrimony with Pa Mbangari Henry, with whom she built a beautiful legacy. Together, they were blessed with seven children and later embraced the joy of being grandparents to 21 grandchildren. Her love and dedication as a wife, mother, and grandmother remain an enduring testament to her selflessness and devotion.
A farmer and trader by profession, Mama Paulina was the backbone of her family, providing support and guidance with grace and resilience. Her hard work ensured the stability of her household and inspired those around her to strive for greatness.
Mama Paulina spent most of her life in Alakuma, Mankon, where she was deeply rooted in her community. In 2012, she embarked on a new chapter, traveling to the United States to live with her first child and son and his family. Despite the distance, she remained a pillar of support and connection to her loved ones.
In the U.S., Mama immediately found her spiritual home at Grace Presbyterian Church, Lanham, Maryland, where she worshipped faithfully and was an active member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). Beyond her church, she also connected with her roots through the Mankon Cultural and Development Association (MACUDA). She enthusiastically participated in and shared the joy of their various conventions over the 12 years she lived in the United States.
Mama cherished her time with her family across the U.S., often spending vacations in Delaware, New York, Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and other states. These visits were moments of great joy and bonding that deepened her family connections.
She also created friendships with family friends, and she was so loved. She was fond of mostly referring every man as “Babayo” and every woman as “Mamayo”
Her warmth extended to her neighbors too, with whom she forged meaningful relationships. Mama introduced them to “Njamanjama,” a cherished dish she prepared and generously shared. Although most of her neighbors were American, they came to love this special meal and fondly remembered her for it. In the wake of her passing, many expressed how much they would miss both her presence and her “Njamanjama.”
Her life was a tapestry of love, faith, and perseverance. Mama Paulina is survived by her beloved husband, her seven children, and her 21 grandchildren. Together with all those who knew Mama, they will continue to honor her memory and the values she instilled in them.
Rest in perfect peace, Mama Paulina. Your legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
