Pauline (Patanella) Carroll of Easton, Maryland passed away in her sleep on July 19, 2022. Pauline was born on March 28, 1934 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and married Charles E. Carroll, Jr. (Ed) on June 28, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Pauline was preceded in death by her mother, Stella (Vizzini) Patanella (1993), her father Joseph Patanella (1995) and Ed Carroll (2016), her loving husband of 64 years. Pauline leaves her daughters, Paula Carroll McDaniel (Doug), of Severna Park, Maryland; Lisa M. Carroll, of Berwyn Heights, Maryland; her son, Jim Carroll (Kathleen), of Davis, California, and her brother, James Patanella (Clem) of Sykesville, Maryland. Pauline is survived by four grandchildren, Julia Lynch (Drew) of Severn, Maryland; Melissa Kopajtic (Joseph) of Severna Park, Maryland; Shannon Carroll, of Lake Forest California (Matt) and Jimmy Carroll (Amber) of Birmingham, Alabama; four great grandsons, two great granddaughters and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and long-time friends. Pauline departed three years to the day her beloved nephew Joe Patanella (Aimee) left us – a detail her family will not soon forget. God rest Joe and Pauline.
Pauline Patanella graduated from Dundalk High School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1952, marrying Ed Carroll (Dundalk High Class of 1950) soon after. They resided first in Baltimore, Maryland, then New York, Massachusetts and Alabama, before relocating to Lanham, Maryland in 1962.
Pauline was a passionate woman of many talents. She had several different career paths including a Human Resources Manager at S. Klein Department Store in Berwyn Heights, Maryland, an optician in the Office of Drs. Fechter, Miles and Rubin in Riverdale, Maryland, and a real estate sales manager for the Berwyn Heights office of Shannon and Luchs. After a successful real estate career, her flair for home furnishings and decorating, keen eye for color and skill as a seamstress, finally led to a career as a shop owner at Pauline’s Place, an antique and hand-painted furniture business in Easton, Maryland. During this period, Pauline and Ed renovated five personal homes each decorated with a style that was distinctly “Pauline” filled with glamour, elegance and comfort.
Pauline was creative and skilled, a fearless singer of Garland and Streisand show-tunes and a lifelong master bridge player who shared her craft with the same four couples of loving and caring neighbors for more than 50 years. Pauline will be greatly missed and forever fondly remembered by her loving family.
A private burial ceremony will be held on August 9, 2022, with a memorial service to be shared with family and friends in Autumn. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, at https://www.hospicechesapeake.org/giving/
