Phyllis Marshall passed away on March 17th, 2021 at the age of 85. The cause of death was complications of dementia. She was born in Chillicothe, OH on September 24th, 1935 and grew up in a loving household in both Chillicothe and Fremont, OH with her late parents, Glenn and Stella Vanscoy. She attended St. Joseph's high school in Fremont and went off to a couple years of college at Miami of Ohio. Summers in those days were spent with friends at Put-In-Bay! She met her soulmate Dick Marshall in the summer of 1959 while he was serving at nearby Camp Perry, OH. They fell for each other and were married on February 11, 1960. They gave birth to two sons, Richard Marshall of Winter Garden, Florida and Phillip Marshall of Bowie, Maryland. Phyllis was a Military wife and loved to travel. The family was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN, Heidelberg, Germany, Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Meade, MD, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Syracuse, NY and finally at the Pentagon. At each of the bases she was highly engaged with the officer's wives clubs and was the first person to say hi and create lifelong friendships. Once settled in Bowie, MD, Phyllis went back to work, first at the Bowie Blade newspaper and then Maryland National Bank. During her time in the banking world she built her career from secretary in the credit card division, to Assistant Vice President in personal banking and finishing her career as a branch manager when she retired. She always enjoyed time with arts and crafts throughout her life and her passion to sew and make quilts led her to a second career in her retirement. Working first at Kiyo Designs in Annapolis, MD and finishing at Tomorrow's Treasures in Crofton, MD, she was able to create more friendships and share stories and hints on sewing! Phyllis enjoyed time with her family more than anything, cooking, playing games and just being together. She especially liked the beach and spent as much time as possible enjoying Ocean City, MD as often as she could. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to BrightFocus Foundation or Alzheimer's Association. Family will receive guests on March 31, from 2-4pm at the Beall Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow. To virtually attend the funeral service and sign the guestbook, please visit: www.beallfuneral.com.
